INTERIOR DESIGN- RASL MUNICHIES BEFORE RENOVATION AND FLOOR PLAN.

  • I took pictures of Room 1 and Room 2 that will be used for the restaurant before renovation.
  • Free hand and AutoCAD software use: I used smartdraw software to draw the floor plan, Microsoft Paint to draw the two rooms in different Perspective views and a free hand drawing using a pen.
  • Top Left: AutoCAD-Floor Plan, Perspective view: Top view.
  • Both the rooms are small and need spacing!!! I need to think of a solution…

INTERIOR DESIGN-TECHNIQUE: RASL MUNICHIES FURNITURE DESIGN LINE DRAWING.

  • Furniture design (tables, chairs, cabinet design and counter design)
  • Materials used: Textures-Wood, Glass, Ceramics, and Metal.
  • Counter Design: The idea of having a dhow will add character to the interior and will tell a historical story about the Swahili food and culture. As the counter area is also part of the kitchen it will be like the chiefs are cooking inside a floating dhow.

INTERIOR DESIGN-TECHNIQUE: RASL MUNICHIES DINNING ROOMS LINE DRAWING.

  • I took pictures of the objects (Elements of Design) and have placed them around the line drawings to illustrate my ideas and show which objects I plan on using for the interior.
  • Dining Rooms Perspective view: dinning room 1 viewing room 1 and dinning room 2 from the Corridor.
  • Room 2 Design: perceptive view from the corridor area and from room 1:
  • Inspiration: The Swahili Interior designs, furniture and book: “Swahili Style, Author: Javed Jafferji. Elie Losleben” deeply inspired my client and me and so we decided on using Antique Swahili Furniture and Objects around the interior.

INTERIOR DESIGN-TECHNIQUE: RASL MUNICHIES KITCHEN AND COUNTER ROOM LINE DRAWING.

  • Perspective view from dinning room 2: Idea 1 and Idea 2, counter and kitchen area with and without partition door.
  • The counter inspired by dhows passing the waterfront of the Indian Ocean was designed to create character into the interior.
  • Spacing: My team and I thought of removing part of the wall between the two rooms and creating an arch.

  • Colour affects us in numerous ways both physically and mentally. The RASL Munichies restaurant was painted in a Tadelakt colour, blue and white colour inspired by the Moroccan style interiors.
  • The Swahili designed tables and latticework chairs especially made locally using mvula wood and hardwood to produce a simply elegant and pure shape inspired by nature.

STATEMENT

I am a hardworking, self-motivated, goal-oriented, artistic individual who is able to work with people from different backgrounds (support team work); I have the Ability to work for long hours. And I easily adapt to different environments flexibility.

RASL Munichies Restaurant measuring 425 square meters took inspiration from the Swahili and Arabian style, beautifully finished and painted in colours inspired by the Moroccan interiors; chosen to set up mood and attract attention.
RASL Munichies was decorated with different objects meeting the Swahili and Arabian design elements, antique plates from Europe and China; Swahili designed furniture made using different wood especially designed to optimize the floor space and allow customers to interact to each other, Mirrors were used to reflect both light and space transforming the small room into a large one.
RASL Munichies has an opened, friendly atmosphere meeting the needs of customers; it is an ideal place to enjoy a moment with friends who seek for good food and drink. All through the project I used elements design to create a good interior and put together a bright composition.

The painting: Interior of a Swahili bedroom; 2009; is a mixed media painting. I painted to express my passion for Interior design and the inspired Swahili interiors of East Africa. In each of my A-level Art units I studied different artists, worked on preparatory studies using mixed media and techniques. Taking a journey to my final pieces I explored natural forms, textures and colours, and peoples passions and obsessions.

I am dedicated to fulfill my ambitious goal of designing and creating astonishingly original interiors that delights every individual’s senses considering the needs of our human environment by advancing the world of art and design. Thus, not only will the program highly benefit me but also have an impact on our societies, communities and the environment on the whole.
